Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit to Sawyer County Criminal History, the reasons it may be used, and the limited circumstances in which another service may receive it. By continuing to use the website, a visitor accepts the practices stated below.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email may be retained long enough to answer and manage the correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the server can receive routine technical information about the visit:

  • Page-view times and the pages requested
  • Device type and operating system
  • Internet Protocol address
  • Referring website, when supplied
  • Browser name and version
  • Approximate time spent on pages

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic information, such as which pages receive visits and where a session ends. A browser can reject cookies, although blocking them may change how some site functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Route a submitted query to the selected search partner
  • Maintain reliable site operation and page speed
  • Identify and repair technical faults
  • Measure which resources visitors use
  • Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

No database of personal criminal records is maintained, compiled, or sold here. The published material identifies how Sawyer County records may be requested from the Sheriff's Office, circuit court, Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Information Bureau, and Wisconsin Public Sex Offender Registry / WiStaySafe, administered by Wisconsin DOC. This website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their own privacy terms govern information entered in those tools, including retention and sharing choices that we do not control. Read the applicable partner policy before submitting a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to sheriff pages, court portals, Wisconsin agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to recognize activity across websites and select targeted ads.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may nevertheless be handled by:

  • Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
  • Search providers processing a query
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
  • Advertising networks serving content on the pages

How We Protect Your Data

Standard safeguards are used for collected information. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, and we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If information from a minor is identified, a deletion request may be made.

Your Data Rights

Applicable law may provide additional rights based on a visitor's residence. Access to Wisconsin government records is governed separately by the Wisconsin Public Records Law, sections 19.31 through 19.39. Wisconsin criminal-history fees, identification records, and fingerprint submissions are addressed in Wisconsin Statutes sections 165.82 through 165.84. A visitor may ask to:

  • Opt out of processing when an applicable law provides that choice
  • Request deletion of eligible personal information
  • Seek correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Request a copy of eligible information held about the visitor

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised as site practices or legal requirements change. A revised version will appear here with its current effective date.
